Legal sim

It was a very tragic case, and showed how important it is to get and have malpractice insurance. Just beacuse the Dr. is there and working with the patient the nurse still has to be vigilant about everything that is going on with the patient.
It would be very hard to be apart of a case where a child or anyone lost their life while in your care- it would be hard to live with that.
This was a great learning experience - it really hit home the importance of knowing and always practicing standards of care for every patient in every situation.

I agree. In an emergency situation, it's always harder to focus on the details, but overlooking things (like med doses) can be fatal. As nurses, we need to be sure we're not just doing what we're told by the Dr.- we need to verify that our orders are safe and within standard scope of practice.

I wonder if malpractice insurance or regular hospital insurance covers any type of counseling for those involved in this type of tragedy. Even though you did the best you could and you didn't mean to contribute to the death, it might take a large toll emotionally.
